We all know how much truancy is a problem, a problem that the UK Government has decided is the responsibility of the parent. I would love to be a truancy officer, who visits parents of offending children and gives the parent a choice. Either go through the courts, or take an on the spot resolution. If they take the latter, they are stripped and subject to either the belt or cane depending on how much the child has missed school.
