A raw recruit wearing his PE kit, appears before the commanding officer on unspecified charges. Unable to convince the officer of his innocence the cadet is found guilty. Before sentencing the cadet has to take off everything except his shorts and then stand to attention while his wrists are shackled behind his back. The cadet is sentenced to be birched, then his shorts are pulled down, his ankles are shackled and he is marched off. At the place of punishment a playing card is drawn to determine the number of stripes. The cadet is restrained, the 36 inch long hazel rod is prepared and then accurately administered to the waiting posterior.
